'SNL' PROMOS: Bill Hader Returns to 'Saturday Night Live'
Through the first two episodes of its 40th season, Saturday Night Live has done a great job of putting the show fully in the hands of its current cast. Last season suffered from an over-reliance on SNL veterans, which made it extremely hard for new castmembers to make a connection with viewers. That progress could come to an abrupt stop this Saturday when Bill Hader returns to host.
NBC released a series of promos for Hader's episode on Tuesday, pairing him with Kenan Thompson. The promos don't ignore the fact that Hader is an SNL vet, bringing up one of Hader's old sketches (surprisingly not Stefon).
Hader is one of the best SNL castmembers to come through the show's ranks over the past decade. Like any other great — Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, Amy Poehler — Hader is entitled to come back as host. What he's not entitled to do, though, is bring back every castmember from his era and derail the show. I don't want to see Fred Armisen. I don't want to see Kristen Wiig. I want to see what Hader can do with his former castmembers who didn't leave SNL and the collection of new talent who came in his wake.
