BOX OFFICE REPORT (NOV. 21-23): THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY Scores Biggest Opener of 2014
1. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 (N)
Weekend gross: $123 million / Total domestic gross: $123 million /
Percent drop: NA
Good news/bad news when it comes to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1's opening weekend. The good news? Mockingjay scored the best opening weekend of 2014, trumping the previous high-water mark set by Transformers: Age of Extinction's $100 million opener in June.
The bad news? Mockingjay's $123 million opening weekend is way behind the opening weekends for the first two Hunger Games movies. The original Hunger Games movie burst onto the scene in 2012 with a $152.5 million opening weekend. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire topped that with a $158.1 million opener. It was widely assumed that Mockingjay would wind up being the top-grossing movie of 2014, but a weekend like this could be just the gap Guardians of the Galaxy needs to fend off the latest Hunger Games installment.
2. Big Hero 6 (2nd)
Weekend gross: $20.1 million / Total domestic gross: $135.7 million /
Percent drop: 42.1
Another weekend, another spot Big Hero 6 moved up among the Second Disney Animation Renaissance rankings. The movie added $20.1 million to its domestic total, enough to slide Big Hero 6 past the $114 million brought in by Bolt by in 2008. Since premiering at No. 1, Big Hero 6 has held steady at No. 2 the past two weeks. That bodes well for the movie's staying power.

3. Interstellar (3rd)
Weekend gross: $15.1 million / Total domestic gross: $120.7 million /
Percent drop: 46.7
With just $120.7 million through its first three weekends, Interstellar's chances of breaking the $200 million barrier appear slim. Interstellar will be just the second of director Christopher Nolan's last six movies to fail to reach that feat. While Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises and Inception all cracked $200 million domestically, The Prestige stalled out at $53.1 million.

4. Dumb and Dumber To (1st)
Percent drop: 61.7
Plummeting 61.7 percent in your second weekend isn't the most annoying sound in the world, but it's never what you want to hear. In its second weekend, Dumb and Dumber To dropped from first to fourth. Harry and Lloyd were no match for Katniss.
5. Gone Girl (5th)
Weekend gross: $2.8 million / Total domestic gross: $156.8 million /
Percent drop: 38.3
Percent drop: 38.3
Gone Girl has spent eight weekends in the top five.
