James Gunn Reveals GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Sequel's Title

Crank up "Hooked on a Feeling" — the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel has an official title now. Director James Gunn revealed on Monday that the film will be titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

The new title takes its cue from Awesome Mix Vol. 2, the cassette tape Peter Quill got from his mother in Guardians of the Galaxy and the presumed name of the sequel's soundtrack.

Marvel President Kevin Feige mistakenly dropped the sequel's title in a conversation with Collider over the weekend, accidentally letting it slip that "We start shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in February-March 2016." Oops.

According to Gunn, though, fans of the franchise had cracked the sequel's title from pretty much the moment the director posted the movie script's cover page online.
