JURASSIC WORLD Sets Records for Biggest Second Weekend, Fastest to $400M

Jurassic World's second weekend was more historic than we thought. Turns out the weekend estimates shorted the film's performance by over $4 million. That chunk of change was just what Jurassic World needed to score the biggest second weekend in box office history, trumping the $103.1 million grossed by The Avengers in 2012. After setting a new opening weekend record with $208.8 million, the latest Jurassic Park movie fell just 49 percent between its first and second weekends.

Thanks to Jurassic World's updated box office gross, the film cracked the $400 million domestic mark in just ten days. Ten days. The previous record was also held by The Avengers, which crossed $400 million in 14 days.

Jurassic World continues to perform on a level that we've never before seen at the box office. If there's been a record to beat, this film has trumped it. Next week will begin new challenge for Jurassic World, as it'll now find itself in Avatar territory. Thanks to cold weather, a lack of competition and a desire by moviegoers to see a 3D movie, Avatar turned in extremely unusual weekends after its debut.

Here's what Jurassic World is up against in terms of best ever third weekend performances: Avatar ($68.5 million), The Avengers ($55.6 million), Spider-Man ($45 million), The Dark Knight ($42.7 million) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($38.9 million). Jurassic World will be challenged by Ted 2 next weekend.
