Joel McHale (kind of) address Community's Chevy Chase controversy
Community star Joel McHale co-hosted Live! With Kelly this week (apparently, they haven't permanently replaced Regis Philbin yet), and Kelly Ripa asked him about Community's current Chevy Chase vs. Dan Harmon feud. McHale responded in the way it seems most people involved with Community have been — brush it off by making jokes about Chase.
McHale leaned pretty heavily on the "Chevy Chase is old" messaging, something the cast has been using for years now.
"It was over voicemails, so there's been some awesome recorded messages from Chevy. And now people are like, 'Do you think they're true?' and as I've said before, we said it on 'The Soup,' it's impossible because there's no way Chevy could figure out voicemail.
He hibernates for nine months out of the year and when you wake someone up, they're very disoriented and a lot of the time, [they] don't know what they're saying."McHale's way of answering Ripa's questioning further leads me to believe that there are serious issues between Chase and the rest of the Community cast. If Chase really was a good guy and the cast really did like him, wouldn't they have something better to say about him beyond just making "he's really old" jokes? I've yet to hear anyone come out and say the Chase is a really good guy and this whole thing is just a misunderstanding.
If I had to put money on it, I would say that Community will be back for a fourth season in the fall, but Chevy Chase won't be a part of that season.
EDIT: Well, that's dumb. Apparently I can't embed this video, even though the video has an embed option. I guess you'll have to click through for the video itself. Sorry about that.
