Closing Time: NBC to End 'The Office' After Season 9
After nine seasons, The Office will be closing its doors. Executive producer Greg Daniels confirmed that this will be the final season for the series that has become the cornerstone of NBC's Thursday comedy block.
As a long-time The Office fan, this is bittersweet news. I hate to see a show like The Office end, especially with NBC being devoid of any actual replacements for the show. The network has made it its mission to kill Community, it's ending 30 Rock and no real support has ever been shown for Parks and Recreation. With The Office gone, there's nothing really in place to fill its spot.
That said, Season 8 of The Office was one of the all-time worst seasons of a TV show, filled with awful characters (Catherine Tate's Nellie Bertram and James Spader's Robert California) and ridiculous plotlines. After Steve Carell left, NBC should've probably just ended the show. It was a cool experiment to see if the show would work after Carell was gone, but it obviously didn't work.
So what else did Daniels reveal about The Office's final season? TVLine has a few details:
It also sounds like Carell won't be coming back. Which is too bad, since for closure, I think Michael Scott should come back. Make his wedding to Holly the season final. That would wash away the bad taste from the past season.

- “We’re going to see who is behind the documentary. We’re going to meet some of them… and we’re going to explore [why they were filming for so long].”
- The Scranton Strangler will be unmasked.
- The final season will be a “big” one for Jim and Pam. “There’s a lot of drama [for them],” he teased. “The story is definitely not over for them.”
- “Daryl will learn PowerPoint,” he shared.
- John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson and Ed Helms will enter the final season as producers.
- The news has no impact on the possible Dwight-centric spin-off The Farm, which will be introduced in an episode of The Office to air this fall.
It also sounds like Carell won't be coming back. Which is too bad, since for closure, I think Michael Scott should come back. Make his wedding to Holly the season final. That would wash away the bad taste from the past season.
