REPORT: Hugh Jackman in Talks to Return as Wolverine in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'

After leaving X-Men: The Last Stand and allowing Brett Ratner to destroy the franchise, Bryan Singer is doing everything he can to make amends. Not only did the director come aboard to helm X-Men: Days of Future Past after Matthew Vaughn stepped down, Singer brought Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, the original trilogy's Professor X and Magneto, with him. Singer has one final big name to add to X-Men: Days of Future Past, according to The Hollywood Reporter: Hugh Jackman, Wolverine himself.

Sources confirm that Hugh Jackman is in negotiations to reprise Wolverine in the movie, which is ostensibly a sequel to X-Men: First Class but will prominently feature actors from the first X-Men trilogy (the first two of which Singer directed).

Jackman cameoed in X-Men: First Class, dropping the only f-bomb the PG-13 film was allowed to use, which established that Wolverine looked exactly the same in the prequel/reboot timeline as he did in the original trilogy timeline. While the best guess is that Stewart and McKellen will be playing versions of their characters from the future in the new X-Men film, Jackman's Wolverine could be used in just about any part of the timeline. No matter how Singer uses Jackman, we're looking at the X-Men movie to trump all X-Men movies.

If Jackman signs on, he'll join a cast that already has Stewart, McKellen, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled to hit theaters on July 18, 2014.
