Frank Darabont Will Rewrite 'Godzilla' Reboot While Henry Cavill, Scoot McNairy or Caleb Landry Jones May Star

While Gareth Edwards' Godzilla film won't star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the production did add one new piece on Monday in addition to hinting at who else could join the movie. Frank Daramont, who most recently launched The Walking Dead on television as the series' showrunner, has signed on to do a rewrite on the Godzilla script, according to a Deadline report. In addition to pretty much doing everything during The Walking Dead's first season, Darabont also directed The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and The Mist.

If the production of Godzilla is anything like how AMC has run The Walking Dead, Darabont will be replaced as writer halfway through the film's script, and when the movie finally gets awesome, another writer will be brought in to replace the one who replaced Darabont. See, it's funny since AMC sucks at treating showrunners with respect.

With Gordon-Levitt passing on being Godzilla's star, who else is the studio looking at? Head past the jump to find out.

According to information gathered by BleedingCool, Man of Steel's Henry Cavill, Monsters' Scoot McNairy and X-Men: First Class' Caleb Landry Jones are all in the running to be the man who faces Godzilla.

At first, I was going to immediately cross Cavill off this list. He's kind of busy being Superman and all. But considering the fact that Godzilla is both a Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures production, just like Man of Steel, Cavill could make this happen.

I'd love to see McNairy get a chance at being a star. I loved Monsters, and he was quietly fantastic in that. It probably helps that he's married to Whitney Able, his costar in that movie. McNairy also worked with Brad Pitt on this winter's Killing Them Softly. Seeing as how Edwards directed the actor in Monsters, I'd have to think that McNairy has the inside track on Godzilla if he wants it. Would the studio trust him to carry a tentpole like Godzilla though? And if being able to carry a tentpole movie is an issue for McNairy, why is Jones even in this conversation? This isn't an indie production. It's Godzilla.
