Oscar Facts of the Day: Age Is but a Number …

When the 2013 Oscar nominations were announced, the Academy set some age-defying records. At the age of nine, Quvenzhane Wallis became the youngest actress ever to be nominated for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild. Emmanuelle Riva became the oldest actress to be nominated in the same category, at age 85 for her performance in Amour.

The oldest Oscar winner ever was Christopher Plummer, who, at age 82, won in 2012 for his performance in Beginners, taking home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

The youngest Oscar winner ever was Tatum O'Neal, who was just 10 when she won for Best Supporting Actress in 1973 for Paper Moon.

Jennifer Lawrence set a new record this year when she became the youngest performer to receive two Best Actress nominations by the age 22, adding a nomination for Silver Linings Playbook to her 2010 nomination for Winter's Bone. She is also the third-youngest Best Actress nominee.

When Kate Winslet was nominated for her performance in The Reader in 2008, she became the youngest individual to have six Oscar nominations. Winslet was just 34 years old at the time.
