Oscar Facts of the Day: The Best of the Best

It's tough to get your hands on one Oscar, let alone a handful. Don't believe me? Just ask Ben Affleck. But some films are so well done and some artists are so talented that just one Oscar doesn't do them justice. Here's a look a the few who have gone down as Oscar legends.

Walt Disney holds the records for the most Oscars won in a lifetime. He collected 32 Oscars from 59 nominations. Disney was nominated for 22 consecutive years. His first win honored his first full-Technicolored animation, Flowers and Trees, in 1932.

The most nominated writer in the history of the Oscars is Woody Allen, with 14 screenplay nominations and two wins. Trailing closley behind him is Bill Wilder who received 12 nominations and three wins.

The most successful films in Oscar history are Ben-Hur, Titanic and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Each took home 11 statuettes. Trumping its competitors, however, just may be Return of the King as it was the only film of the three to take home every award for which it was nominated.

The most nominated films of Oscar history are Titanic and All About Eve, which both had 14 nods each.
