SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL: Benedict Cumberbatch's Not Khan Declares His Supremacy in 'Star Trek Into Darkness'

If you're a Popculturology reader, you were probably already psyched about Star Trek Into Darkness. Now that we know that JJ Abrams is directing Star Wars: Episode VII, that pyschedness is most likely at a new level. Everything Abrams delivers in Star Trek Into Darkness can now be seen as a clue to what the director will do with Star Wars. Star Trek got time travel, so there's no way Abrams would do that in Star Wars too, right? Star Trek recast its legendary characters, so there's no way Abrams would do that in Star Wars too, right? RIGHT?

While we're still a few months and years away from getting answers to those questions, Star Trek Into Darkness debuted a new commercial during Super Bowl XLVII. Benedict Cumberbatch's John Harrison gets a huge amount of screentime, declaring that he's better at everything than Chris Pine's Captain Kirk. Star Trek has Cumberbatch playing Not Khan, so there's no way Abrams would do that in Star Wars too, right?
