HBO Renews 'The Newsroom' for a Third and Final Season (Has Aaron Sorkin Finished His 'Steve Jobs' Screenplay?)

Aaron Sorkin's The Newsroom will return for a final time this fall, with HBO renewing the series for a third season on Monday. Despite Jeff Daniels tweeting that there would be a third season of The Newsroom months ago, the show's fate had been up in the air without an official renewal from HBO.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Lieberstein will join the series as an executive producer. Lieberstein was previously a showrunner on The Office, also playing Toby Flenderson.

The most interesting part of this story has to be the fact that THR mentions "the holdup has been creator Aaron Sorkin, who needed to pen the Steve Jobs film script before turning his attention back to [The] Newsroom." So has Sorkin finally finished his script adapting Walter Isaacson's Steve Jobs biography? It's been a long time since we got any news about that project, with the last story coming in November 2012 when we learned that (at least at the time) Sorkin was going to write the film in three long unbroken acts.
