'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Costume Revealed

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb has hinted and teased that we'd see a new version of Spider-Man's costume in next year's sequel, talking about an evolution of the suit. Thanks to ComingSoon.net, we now know what (most of) Peter Parker's new costume looks like. Webb had mentioned that the new Spidey suit would feature larger eyes, something I'm a fan of.

For anyone out there questioning the legitimacy of this reveal, I was with you at first. The spider symbol on the front of the suit looked a lot like the ones that Tobey Maguire used to wear in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. I did some image comparison between that suit and Andrew Garfield's from The Amazing Spider-Man, and there seems to be enough difference there. If ComingSoon.net is declaring this their exclusive, I don't think they got duped.

So why would Webb and his team work so hard to create a new look for the Spider-Man reboot in the last film only to swing this close to Raimi's version in the sequel? Here's my theory: The Amazing Spider-Man needed to break from the previous trilogy, and — besides a new cast — the best way to do that was to establish a new look for Spider-Man, even if that meant ticking off the Spidey traditionalists. Now that the new version of Spider-Man has taken root, Webb can reintroduce Spider-Man's classic (or Ultimate?) look in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
