Will Hillary Clinton Write the Foreword? What We Can Expect From Amy Poehler’s Upcoming Book

Funnywoman Amy Poehler recently announced that she’ll have a new book hitting shelves in fall of 2014. To say that I was happy about this news would be the understatement of the year. I’ve been a longtime fan of Poehler and have always admired her style of writing.

As I scoured the Internet to read everything about this news that I possibly could, it was clear that people had already developed concerns that this book may be too much like her fellow comedienne authors Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch and Mindy Kaling. Yes, we’ll see some similarities with the format, since Fey, Dratch and Kaling composed their books in a format of short, punchy essays that we’ll likely see from Poehler as well.

However, while the format may be the same, it will not be a carbon copy of these other books. I’m calling it now. It will be so different from the others. Let me tell you why …

It won't be Bossypants because Poehler won’t focus as much on her childhood as Fey did. Aside from a few mentions of growing up in Massachusetts, Poehler has kept her family out of the spotlight. We may see snippets of her childhood but it won’t dominate the storyline with tales of high school plays and summer jobs.

It won't be A Girl Walks Into A Bar because it won’t be about how Poehler met her baby daddy (Will Arnett, you two can still make it work!) and had an unexpected pregnancy at age 40. Let’s be honest, Dratch’s book was a drawn out love story about how her unconventional relationship unfolded. Poehler will detail hilarious anecdotes on motherhood, but we won’t hear about how she and Arnett fell in (and out) of love. Poehler's book will also have the energy of a four-year-old on Red Bull — an enthusiasm we didn’t see in Dratch’s memoir.

It won’t be Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) because of the narrative voice. Kaling, who wrote her book in the voice of a cooler older sister, scratched the surface of some heartfelt subjects, but with Poehler we'll see an even deeper dive. Looking at life experiences now as a mother, she'll relate her life lessons to the bigger themes that Kaling only brushes.

Despite any concerns, I think Poehler's book will bring a refreshing perspective on the world of writing, comedy, friendship and motherhood. She'll charm readers with her humbling — yet hilarious — personality and leave everyone wishing she was their best friend. I'm also hoping that Hillary Clinton writes the foreword. A girl can dream …

We still have a while to wait and a lot of speculation to read up on, but this is my first assumption on what we'll see. I’m also expecting a pretty hilarious book cover.
