REPORT: Christopher Nolan to Produce 'Justice League' With Christian Bale Possibly Returning as Batman

OK, so I took a couple shots a Latino-Review last week (shots that I still think they deserved), but if the scoop they dropped on Sunday night turns out to be true, all will be forgiven. And what scoop is that, you ask? Nothing major ... unless Christopher Nolan producing a Justice League movie directed by Zack Snyder and starring Christian Bale as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman is major. Oh, that's major? Yeah, I guess you're right.

Here's the basic breakdown of what Latino-Review reported in a video post. With Disney capable of printing billions of dollars thanks to the Joss Whedon-led Avengers franchise and the JJ Abrams-led Star Wars franchise, Warner Bros. realized it was in trouble. Nolan's Batman franchise is over. Man of Steel, Snyder's Superman reboot, is getting fantastic early buzz, but it's only one film. Harry Potter is done. Jack the Giant Slayer absolutely flopped. Understanding the time has come to pour major resources into the perpetually stalled Justice League movie, Latino-Review is reporting that Nolan has "taken over the DCU," with all superhero movies at Warner Bros. now going through him. Like with Man of Steel, Nolan will serve as a "godfather"/producer on Justice League, with Snyder also producing and possibly directing. The kicker of Warner Bros. Justice League plan is to use the film as Bale's way back into the Batman role, with his Bruce Wayne teaming up with Cavill's version of Superman.

We heard earlier in the week that the early buzz on Man of Steel is extremely positive, with some sources even reporting that it could be the best film of 2013. If Snyder and Cavill have delivered the Superman reboot we've been hoping for and Nolan proved that he could apply his magic to another superhero, the plan that Latino-Review has detailed seems legit. The Marvel Universe has been led by Kevin Feige, Jon Favreau and now Whedon, all extremely talented creative minds who understand how to shepherd a franchise to success. Fox has also adopted a similar strategy with its Marvel properties, putting both Mark Millar and Matthew Vaughn in charge of creating a Fox Marvel Universe with the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises. How Warner Bros. didn't make this type of move years ago is baffling. Bringing Nolan back to godfather the DC Universe's cinematic growth is a genius (yet obvious) move.

In their report, Latino-Review's El Mayimbe also predicted that we could see a post-credits scene in Man of Steel that would feature Cavill's Superman coming across a retired Bruce Wayne and letting him know that he was putting together a team of superheroes. While keeping Nolan's Batman universe alive by letting Joseph Gordon-Levitt wear the cowl in Justice League would be cool, you can't beat Bale reprising the role.

This is a huge scoop, and while I've had been qualms about Latino-Review these past few weeks, I do have to echo the fact that they have a great track record when it comes to DC news, landing scoops on Heath Ledger as the Joker and Brandon Routh as the lead in Superman Returns. While Warner Bros. would probably love to play this close to the chest, if Bale happens to shoot a post-credits scene for Man of Steel, a movie that opens in just three months, the news is going to leak.
