JJ Abrams Thinks John Williams Will Return to Score 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

When it comes to people who have made Star Wars the iconic franchise it is, it's hard to imagine the series without John Williams. The legendary composer has scored all six Star Wars films, working closely with George Lucas to create the iconic movies that we fans have loved for generations.

With Disney relaunching the Star Wars films with JJ Abrams replacing Lucas as director, people have been wondering if Williams would return to score the new trilogy. On Tuesday, ComicBookMovie.com reported that Abrams believes that Williams will be back for Star Wars: Episode VII.
"Michael Giacchino is an incredible composer, who I was lucky enough to begin working with on Alias. ... He's truly one of the most influential members of our crew, and I think this score, he really outdid himself. Again, for Star Wars, it's very early days, but I believe that, going forward, John Williams will be doing that film, because he was there long before I was."
While I'm happy to hear that Abrams thinks Williams will score his upcoming Star Wars installment, would I really have been heartbroken if the composer wasn't back? Look, Williams is Star Wars more than almost anyone else, but like Lucas moving on, there'll come a time when Williams won't be the man writing music for Star Wars. We'll learn to accept and even love whoever follows the Oscar winner. Franchises change composers all the time. In fact, we're already witnessing one legendary Williams score get replaced with Hans Zimmer scoring the Superman reboot, Man of Steel, this summer.

Michael Giacchino, who Abrams has worked with on the Star Trek films, Super 8 and Lost, already has a relationship with Disney, scoring many of Pixar's movies. Could Giacchino follow Williams at some point on Star Wars?
