'Walking Dead' Star Michael Rooker Joins Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
Now this is an interesting casting. When announced that Guardians of the Galaxy was coming to the big screens, the studio said that the team would be made up of Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot and Rocket Raccoon. We already know that Chris Pratt is playing Star-Lord/Peter Quill, that Dave Bautista is playing Drax and that Zoe Saldana is in talks to play Gamora. Based on that math, Marvel only had to finds actors to voice Groot and Rocket. On Tuesday though, Deadline reported that The Walking Dead's Michael Rooker had signed on to play Yondu.
Since most moviegoers aren't familiar with the Guardians of the Galaxy and especially a character like Yondu, here's why this is interesting. Not only is Yondu not a part of the original list of team members that Marvel announced, but he's not even a part of the high-profile Brian Michael Bendis relaunch of Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics. Rooker has signed on to play a character who wasn't even on our radars. What's director James Gunn cooking up over there in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
