'Star Wars: Episode VII' Rumors: Dominic Monaghan, a Release Date and Two Cool Fan-Made Posters

Every day that passes is one day that we're closer to getting some big Star Wars: Episode VII news. While Disney/Lucasfilm hasn't hinted any approaching announcement, there's always the chance that we'll get some kind of news at Comic-Con next month. In the meantime, the Star Wars rumor mill continues to churn, with a few new tidbits coming out over the past few days.

First off is the rumor that Lost and Lord of the Rings star Dominic Monaghan is in the running for a role in the upcoming sequel. Monaghan was recently on the red carpet for a Lone Ranger premiere, and Desde Hollywood asked the actor, "Are you going to be in Star Wars?" Monaghan mumbled a kind of nervous, "Well, I can't answer that question. Ask JJ Abrams. He'll know." Bleeding Cool seems to think that there's something to Monaghan's denial, and considering that he worked with Abrams during Lost's early days, there's the chance Bleeding Cool could be onto something. I've long said that at least one Abrams veteran will wind up in Star Wars: Episode VII. My pick had been Benedict Cumberbatch, but SPOILER now that we know he's the new Khan in Star Trek END SPOILER, that might be too much overlap.

Cosmic Book News is suggesting that Episode VII will hit theaters on May 29, 2015. The original six Star Wars movies have all debuted between May 16 and May 25, so that date does make sense. With The Avengers 2 hitting theaters on May 1, 2015, Disney will want to space out two of its biggest franchises. Can you imagine how much money Disney is going to pull in in the span of one month with The Avengers 2 and Star Wars: Episode VII? The sequel to the movie with the biggest opening weekend in history and the first new installment in a franchise in ten years? Geez ...

And finally, Flicks and Bits highlighted a series of pretty sweet fan-made Star Wars: Episode VII posters. They hew pretty closely to Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness posters, and hopefully Episode VII's posters will feature the art of Drew Struzan. Still though, nice posters. Head past the jump to check them out.
