Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Will Host the Next Two Golden Globes
Bad news: Looks like we're going to have to wait a few more years before Tina Fey and Amy Poehler can host the Oscars. Here's the good news, though: The duo won't be able to host since they'll have their hands full hosting the Golden Globes for the next two years.
After hosting the 2013 Golden Globes, Fey and Poehler have a deal that will make them three-time hosts, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Tina and Amy are two of the most talented comedic writer/performers in our business, and they were a major reason the Golden Globes was the most entertaining awards show of last season,” said NBC president of alternative and late night programming Paul Telegdy. “We’re elated they wanted to host together again and that they committed for the next two years.”
A two-year hosting deal is a pretty big leap, but after Fey and Poehler killed it a the 70th Golden Globes, this move makes perfect sense. If there's one thing the Hollywood Foreign Press likes, it's consistency in its hosts. Before Fey and Poehler hosted in January, Ricky Gervais had hosted the previous three ceremonies. Also, for NBC, this move is a bit of Oscar protection against ABC ever nabbing Fey and Poehler to host that network's Academy Awards telecast.
The 71st Golden Globe Awards will air on Jan. 12, 2014, on NBC.
