Pixar's 'The Blue Umbrella' Doesn't Make the Cut for the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film
On Thursday, the Academy announced the ten selections that made the cut for Best Animated Short Film, narrowing down the field of entries that will compete for an Oscar.
Surprisingly, Pixar's The Blue Umbrella didn't make the cut. The Blue Umbrella ran before Monsters University, and seemed to garner praise when it debuted. If you haven't seen it yet, pick up Monsters University on blu-ray and watch it for yourself. While the short doesn't quite live up to last year's Oscar winner, Disney's Paperman, I'm still shocked that it didn't make this cut. Pixar shorts have been nominated for Best Animated Short Film eight times since 2000.
