'Star Wars: Episode VII' to Hit Theaters on Dec. 18, 2015

In December 2015, the Force will be with us again. Lucasfilm announced on Thursday that Star Wars: Episode VII will hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2015. This will be the first time a Star Wars movie opens in any month besides May.

"We're very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture," Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn said is a press release.

This move prevents Disney from having two of its biggest upcoming films — Episode VII and The Avengers: Age of Ultron — have to face off in May 2015.
