The Story Behind That Awesome Cameo in 'Thor: The Dark World'

Have you seen Thor: The Dark World yet? If you have, keep reading for some behind-the-scenes knowledge. If you haven't seen the Thor sequel yet, go watch it and come back to read this.

OK, now that we've gotten rid of those losers who haven't seen Thor: The Dark World yet, we can talk about the surprise cameo in the movie. We're going to go behind-the-scenes of the Captain America cameo. While taunting Thor, Loki puts on a bit of a shapeshifting show, eventually turning into Thor's Avenger buddy.

First off, this an extremely cool cameo, and I'm shocked it didn't get publicize or spoiled before opening weekend. As someone who spends a lot of time reading about movies on the Internet, it's rare for me to be surprised by a cameo like this.

After seeing Loki shift into Captain America, I assumed that Chris Evans swung by the Thor set for a visit and filmed the scene, getting to spend some time with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. MTV released interviews with Hemsworth and Hiddleston, and the duo reveals that Evans' performance was actually done elsewhere and then stitched in with computer wizardry. Don't worry, this is still a cool story.

Even though Evans wasn't there to play Captain America, Hiddleston filled the role. Despite everyone telling him that it was unnecessary, Hiddleston donned the Captain America suit himself and proceeded to act out the scene as Loki doing an impression of Cap. When Evans later filmed his version, he actually watched Hiddleston's take, meaning that the finished version moviegoers saw was basically Evans as Captain America doing an impression of Hiddleston as Loki doing an impression of Captain America. Got that?
