'Girls' Star Adam Driver Is the Frontrunner to Play Nightwing in 'Batman vs. Superman'
For a movie that started out as the sequel to Man of Steel, then morphed into a way for Warner Bros. to introduce a new Batman, Batman vs. Superman is sure starting to look like a stealth Justice League movie. We already know that Henry Cavill will be back as Superman and Ben Affleck will be playing Batman, and that Jaimie Alexander, Olga Kurylenko, Gal Gadot and Elodie Yung are in the running to play Wonder Woman. There's even been talk of the Flash showing up in Batman vs. Superman.
A new rumor on Friday adds another character to Batman vs. Superman, with TheWrap reporting that Girls star Adam Driver is Warner Bros.' frontrunner to play Nightwing, the grownup alter ego of Dick Grayson/Robin. We heard hints a day or so ago from Latino-Review that the movie was possibly ready to bring in Nightwing, setting him at odds against Batman, his former mentor. TheWrap's report seems to nail down that we'll see Nightwing in Batman vs. Superman.
I've mentioned this before, and I'm going to say it again — I think Warner Bros. is cramming too much into this movie in hopes of catching up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel has another monster global hit on its hands with Thor: The Dark World, a character average moviegoers had no allegiance to just a few years ago, Warner Bros. has struggled to find its footing in a post-The Dark Knight Trilogy world.
Warner Bros. should have done one of two things. It should have copied Marvel's blueprint by giving Man of Steel a proper sequel and then fleshing out the Justice League Universe with standalone movies for characters like Batman, Wonder Woman and the Flash, which would have built to a Justice League event movie. Or, the studio should've just screwed the waiting and jumped right into an official Justice League movie. Instead, we're getting a muddled Superman sequel that also has Batman and perhaps a bunch of other characters.
