Hugh Jackman to Play Blackbeard in Peter Pan Origin Film? What Happened to Captain Hook?
Hugh Jackman is in talks to play a famous pirate in Warner Bros.' upcoming Peter Pan origin movie ... just not the famous pirate you expected. According to TheWrap, Jackman is in negotiations to join director Joe Wright's Pan as Blackbeard.
How does Blackbeard fit into the Peter Pan story? Let's turn to TheWrap to sort that out:
Hmmm. I'm not quite sure how this one works out. I honestly don't remember ever seeing any version of Peter Pan that featured Blackbeard, and I'm guessing that Pan's version of Captain Hook wouldn't be as cartoonish as the one featured in Disney's Peter Pan.
TheWrap also reports that Warner Bros. will hold open casting calls to find the actor who'll play Peter Pan and is seeking an actress in her 20s to play Tiger Lily. Oh boy. Pan is going to use the Indians? I can't wait to see how that goes over.
How does Blackbeard fit into the Peter Pan story? Let's turn to TheWrap to sort that out:
The origin story revolves around an orphan who is taken to the magical world of Neverland where he becomes a hero to the natives and leads a revolt against the evil pirates. The idea is that Blackbeard is the film’s main antagonist while Hook would serve as Pan’s close ally before turning bad. Ryan Gosling was someone the studio had looked at among others for the part.
