Dan Harmon and Joel McHale Celebrate 'Community' Getting Picked Up by Yahoo

With the news that Community has received an eleventh-hour and somewhat shocking pickup by Yahoo Screen, fans of the show aren't the only ones celebrating. Both series creator Dan Harmon and Community star Joel McHale released statements on Monday addressing the show's sixth-season pickup.

"I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo," Harmon said in a statement. "I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!"

"Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It’s the internet. We can swear now."

Yahoo's move also makes it clear that McHale won't be the guy to replace Craig Ferguson as the next host of The Late Late Show.

Sony Pictures Television President of Programming and Production Zack Van Amburg told Entertainment Weekly that Community's move to the Internet won't hurt the show's budget. "The budget won't be cut one dollar," Van Amburg said. "We didn’t want to be producing the show at any less of the quality or production value that we had been producing. Yahoo came in with finances that were undeniable."

According to EW, the sixth season of Community is expected to debut this fall. Hopefully Yahoo Screen gives the series a reliable airing schedule, unlike NBC ever did. This looks likely, as Yahoo Chief Marketing Officer Kathy Savitt told Vulture that Community will likely air on a one-episode-per-week basis. There won't be any Orange Is the New Black-esque binges of Community.
