Brooks Wheelan Fired From 'SNL'

If you barely appeared on Saturday Night Live during your freshman season and you get fired, does it count as actually getting fired? Brooks Wheelan sure things so, tweeting on Monday: "Had a blast and loved every second of it. I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke... FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!"

Wheelan joined SNL for the show's 39th season along with Beck Bennett, John Milhiser, Kyle Mooney, Mike O'Brien, Noel Wells and Sasheer Zamata. The comedian failed to make an impact during the past season, appearing in only a few sketches and "Weekend Update" segments. If anyone was getting fired before SNL's 40th season, it was going to be Wheelan.

Lorne Michaels told Deadline last month that SNL was "still in the middle of rebuilding" and that "there will be changes this year." Odds are Wheelan was just the first castmember to get the ax this summer.
