Full Trailer for New 'Doctor Who' Season Promises a Descent Into Darkness

The BBC debuted a full-length trailer for the upcoming season of Doctor Who, showing off a season that promises to be darker than Doctor Who has usually been. With Peter Capaldi taking over as the Doctor, this trailer represents probably the biggest look we've gotten at the new Doctor. (Unless you read those leaked scripts, that is.)

As a reality new fan of Doctor Who, I don't have a ton of history to compare this trailer to. After The Day of the Doctor, though, the show really does appear to be moving in a darker direction, with Capaldi's Doctor declaring, "I've made many mistakes — it's about time I did something about that."

Doctor Who's eighth season premieres on BBC on Aug. 23.
