BAMF! First Look at Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

The opening scene of X2: X-Men United where Nightcrawler infiltrates the White House and almost kills the president in the Oval Office is one of the greatest single scenes in superhero movie history. Unfortunately, we only got the character in that movie, as Alan Cumming never reprised the role in any of the X-Men movies that followed.

Nightcrawler will make his big-screen comeback in X-Men: Apocalypse, but this time he'll be younger and played by Kodi Smit-McPhee.

We got our first look at Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler on Monday morning. The various X-Men social media accounts posted pictures and videos of Nightcrawler doing his signature BAMF teleportation. As some kind of play/joke on the fact that Nightcrawler can come and go in an instant, those videos didn't last long. Luckily we got the above picture from Smit-McPhee's Instagram page.

Smit-McPhee definitely has Nightcrawler's look down, from the blue, textured skin to the claw-like hands and feet. Not quite sure about Nightcrawler rocking Stefon from Saturday Night Live's hair though. Is Nightcrawler going to tell us about all the hottest mutant clubs?

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
