Ummmmm, Jared Leto as The Joker in SUICIDE SQUAD Is Something Different ...

Following Heath Ledger's take on The Joker is not an enviable task. Not only did Leder's Joker from The Dark Knight win an Oscar but it supplanted pretty much every previous take on the character as the iconic version of the Clown Prince of Crime.

No matter what Jared Leto and Suicide Squad director David Ayer did with The Joker was never going to live up to what Christopher Nolan and Ledger did. So it appears that Leto and Ayer decided to do something COMPLETELY different.

Ayer debuted Leto's take on The Joker on Friday night, revealing a take on the character that looks less demented killer and more punk band frontman with a dental problem.

Look, I want Leto's Joker to work. I want Suicide Squad to work, and I'm looking forward to seeing Ben Affleck's Batman eventually go head-to-head with the new Joker. Something about the Suicide Squad Joker is just too ... on the nose? Look, he has HAHAHAHA tattoos! It says DAMAGED on his forehead!

We're going to see Leto's Joker for many years now ... providing Warner Bros.' plans for its own cinematic universe work. The studio's new take on superheroes and supervillains is something totally different from what Nolan previously did. I guess we should get used to this take.
