Marvel Studios and Netflix Announce DAREDEVIL Season 2 Is Coming in 2016

Daredevil will return ... much sooner than we previously thought. Marvel Studios and Netflix announced on Tuesday night that they had renewed the critically acclaimed streaming series for a second season that will premiere in 2016.

According to Marvel and Netflix's original plans, Daredevil was supposed to appear for one season in 2015, be followed by AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist from 2016 to 2018, and then return for a The Defenders miniseries in 2019. The popularity and acclaim that the first season of Daredevil has received must've convinced Marvel and Netflix that fans shouldn't wait to see the Man Without Fear until 2019.

Based on Marvel Studios' press release announcing Daredevil's Season 2 renewal, it looks like the rest of the slate has been shuffled too. AKA Jessica Jones is now listed as premiering "later this year" and Luke Cage is listed as 2016. There's a chance Marvel and Netflix have accelerated their premiere schedule in order to build in time for additional seasons.

One big change for Season 2 of Daredevil will be that Steven S. DeKnight won't return as showrunner. Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez will replace DeKnight.

“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season," DeKnight said in his Marvel statement. "I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward."

Charlie Cox, Rosario Dawson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Scott Glenn are all expected to return for Daredevil's second season.

I just finished the first season of Daredevil on Monday night, and I loved the series. I've struggled to get on board with Agents of SHIELD, but didn't have that trouble at all with Daredevil.
