STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY: ROGUE ONE Teaser Trailer Leaks!

On the final day of Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm unveiled the first teaser trailer for Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. That trailer then promptly leaked online.



During the rest of the presentation, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards discussed his upcoming Star Wars movie, which will serve as a prequel to the events of A New Hope. We've been hearing rumors about what these new Star Wars movies will be about, from a young Han Solo to Boba Fett to Yoda, and now we finally know. Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One will focus on the rebels who stole the Death Star plans. You know, the Death Star plans that Princess Leia iconically uploaded into R2-D2 and sent him to deliver to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Those Death Star plans.

Edwards promised no Jedi in Rogue One, instead choosing to focus on actual soldiers fighting a war, noting that the franchise is called "Star WARS." Felicity Jones will play one of those soldiers.

"It comes down to a group of individuals who don't have magical powers that have to somehow bring hope to the galaxy," Edwards said. "This is a real place that we;re really in. … The thing that interests me about it, is Star Wars was basically very black and white. Our movie is gray."

You'll also notice that this movie is going by the title Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. Lucasfilm explained that the non-episode films will go under the Anthology banner instead of being called spinoffs or standalones. "We're extremely excited about these," Lucasfilm Story Group member Kiri Hart said during Celebration. "We're going to be calling them Anthology films."

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is set to hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2016.
