George Miller Reveals Title of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Sequel

After a three-decade hiatus, George Miller resurrected the Mad Max franchise to rave reviews this past weekend. Riding high on a $45.4 million opening and a 98 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating, Mad Max: Fury Road made it pretty obvious that fans of the franchise won't have to wait another 30 years for another installment.

Miller has been discussing the next Mad Max film over the weeks and month leading up to Mad Max: Fury Road hitting theaters, mentioning that he not only had enough material for several more movies but that he already had a script ready for a sequel focusing on Charlize Theron's Furiosa. During an appearance on The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith podcast (via Indiewire's The Playlist), the director revealed that the next Mad Max movie will be titled Mad Max: The Wasteland.

It took Miller three years from the beginning of production on Fury Road to complete the most recent Mad Max movie. Following that same timeframe, we should expect Mad Max: The Wasteland to reach theaters in 2018. Barring an expected casting change, Tom Hardy will be back as Max Rockatansky. Will Theron be back too? It sounds like that will depend on whether The Wasteland is actually Mad Max: Furiosa by another title.
