Marvel and Sony Are Looking at These Directors for the SPIDER-MAN Reboot

If the rumors are true, we're less than a year away from seeing a new Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. After that, the webslinger will get his own standalone movie in 2017. Before then, though, we need an actor and a director for the Spider-Man reboot. We heard last week that Asa Butterfield is reportedly the favorite to follow in Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's footsteps. How about the director who succeeds Sam Raimi and Marc Webb?

Deadline reported on Tuesday that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are looking at a mix of five options to helm the new Spider-Man movie: Jonathan Levine (50/50 and Warm Bodies), Ted Melfi (St. Vincent), Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), the duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (the upcoming Vacation sequel) and Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite).

This isn't the first time that Levine's name was in the running for a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. The director was previously rumored to be in the mix to helm Doctor Strange, a job that went to Scott Derrickson.

According to Deadline, the new Spider-Man franchise will "tell the Spidey story over three to four movies, each covering a year of high school for Peter Parker." The new movies will skip the origin story (we've already gotten in on the big screen twice).

Unlike the past few Spider-Man moves, the reboot has to get it right immediately. This version of the character is going to intertwined with the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. If the wrong director or wrong actor is picked, Sony doesn't get to just reboot the whole thing again.
