REPORT: Second STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY Movie Will Be a Boba Fett Origin Story

The second Star Wars Anthology movie doesn't have a director, but we may now know its plot. TheWrap is reporting that the movie will be a Boba Fett origin story.

Boba Fett has been rumored to be the subject of one of the Star Wars spinoff films since pretty much the day Disney and Lucasfilm announced the projects. The Boba Fett movie will follow Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One and hit theaters in 2018.

Josh Trank was announced as the director of this movie last June, but he announced that he was stepping away from the project over the weekend. While Trank cited a desire to explore other work, insiders have made it clear that Lucasfilm and producer Simon Kinberg weren't happy with Trank's behavior on the set of Fox's Fantastic Four reboot and wanted to get him away from the future of Star Wars.

So who will replace Trank as director of the second Star Wars Anthology film? If Boba Fett really is the subject of this movie, how long until Disney turns to Joe Johnston to helm it? Johnston was one of the primary forces behind the character's creation and has often mentioned a desire to bring the further adventures of Boba Fett to the big screen.

This isn't the first time we've heard rumors about a Boba Fett movie. Entertainment Weekly reported the possibility way back in February 2013. The character is an obvious subject for one of the Star Wars standalone movies. He's super popular and has a lot of open history to fill in between his appearance in Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones and his cameo in A New Hope. Who would play Boba Fett in his own movie? While Daniel Logan portrayed the young version of Boba Fett in Attack of the Clones, the bounty hunter should look exactly like Temuera Morrison as an adult. He's a clone.

Don't be surprised if we don't have to wait for this movie to see Boba Fett again, though. With Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One focusing on a group of Rebels attempting to steal the Death Star plans during the time period before the original Star Wars movie, Boba Fett could make at least a cameo in that movie.

We'll have to see if Lucasfilm announced a director to replace Trank and confirms this news soon. Oh, and how cool would it be if a Boba Fett standalone movie found a way to put the character's prototype white armor onto the big screen?
