Does Seth MacFarlane Have Plans to Make TED 3?

Ted 2 doesn't hit theaters until this weekend, but Seth MacFarlane is already talking about the chances we'll see Ted and his buddy, Mark Wahlberg, in theaters together again.

"It's all based on appetite. If Ted 2 does as well as the first one, it means people want to see more of these characters. If that happens, then there would likely be a Ted 3," MacFarlane, who both directed Ted 2 and voiced the title character, told Collider. "The franchise, to me, is one that's more character-based than premise-based. If you look at it like episodes in television, if you have characters that people like and they want to see them, again and again, you can tell any number of different stories. If there’s a desire for it, than yeah, we would do a Ted 3."

The first Ted movie opened to $54.4 million, which was at the time the second biggest opening weekend for a R-rated comedy, on its way to a domestic lifetime gross of $218.8 million. Ted 2 is up against record-setting performances by Jurassic World and Inside Out and could still come in third place this weekend even if it matches its predecessor's opening gross.

Ted is a movie that's aged well and plays often on cable. The audience should be there to propel Ted 2 to a box office performance that's enough to make Ted 3 a lock.
