ANT-MAN Tops PIXELS — Game Over for Adam Sandler's Career?

Despite the allure of Pac-Man and Donkey Kong, moviegoers kept their quarters away from Pixels this weekend. Adam Sandler's latest movie was panned by critics and only earned $24 million its opening weekend. This continues a trend of poor opening weekends for the actor. With the exception of the Grown Ups movies, Sandler's movies no longer connect with audiences. People just don't seem to be interested in watching Sandler half-ass his way through a movie just to collect a paycheck.

Pixels' poor debut opened the way for Ant-Man to take the No. 1 spot for a second weekend in a row. Marvel Studios' latest film fell 56.7 percent its second weekend. I found this surprising based on the positive word-of-mouth promotion Ant-Man was receiving from fans. This sadly leaves Ant-Man at $106.8 million — dead last for Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. It looks like the movie doesn't have the power to break $200 million, which is a huge departure from every movie that the studio has put out since The Avengers.

Jurassic World fell out of the top five for the first time, but that didn't stop the movie from adding another record to its impressive resumé. Over just seven weekends, Jurassic World became the third highest grossing movie in domestic box office history, passing The Avengers' $623.4 million with $623.8 million of its own. Jurassic World will now attempt to pass Titanic's $658.7 million.
