KEY & PEELE Will End After This Season

This season of Key & Peele will be the show's last. Keegan-Michael Key broke the news to TheWrap on Friday.

"This is our final season — and it's not because of Comedy Central, it's us," Key told the site. "It was just time for us to explore other things, together and apart. I compare it to Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. We might make a movie and then do our own thing for three years and then come back and do another movie. ... I'm thinking we could do that every three years — take a year, go bang out a movie. That's the plan right now."

Key and Jordan Peele already have a movie in the works, with Keanu set to hit theaters on April 22, 2016. The duo will star in the movie alongside Method Man, Gabrielle Union and Will Forte.

Key & Peele has been on the air since January 2012 and began its fifth season on July 8. Key and Peele have apparently known for awhile that this would be the final season of their show but kept quiet about the news.

"Jordan and I were talking yesterday," Key told TheWrap, "and we decided it's probably a good time to let people know."

The loss of Key and Peele continues the exodus of talent that Comedy Central has experienced over the past year or so. John Oliver and Stephen Colbert have already left the cable network and Jon Stewart will depart from The Daily Show soon. How long until Amy Schumer's movie career makes her too busy to keep doing Inside Amy Schumer?
