VACATION Reboot Directors in Talks to Write SPIDER-MAN Reboot

Does directing a reboot make you more qualified to write a reboot? That must be the theory behind the news that Vacation co-directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein are in talks to write Marvel Studios and Sony's Spider-Man reboot. Deadline broke the news on Thursday.

Daley and Goldstein were reportedly in the running to direct the new Spider-Man movie, but that job wound up going to Jon Watts. If they reach a deal with Marvel and Sony, the duo will be writing for Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Marisa Tomei as Aunty May.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has mentioned that he wants the new Spider-Man movie to have the feel of a John Hughes film. I'm not sure if Daley and Goldstein are the guys to do that. Daley definitely knows teen angst thanks to starring in Freaks and Geeks. The duo wrote both Horrible Bosses movies, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. With the exception of the first Horrible Bosses and the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs sequel, that a resumé of suspect quality.

The untitled Spider-Man reboot will hit theaters on July 28, 2017. Holland is expected to make his Spider-Man debut in next year's Captain America: The Winter Solider.
