Elizabeth Banks in Talks to Direct CHARLIE'S ANGELS Reboot
There have been two Charlie's Angels TV series (one more successful than the other) and two Charlie's Angels movies. The franchise hasn't been touched since 2011 ... which means it's time to reboot, right?
Sony's working on a new Charlie's Angels movie, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio wants Elizabeth Banks to direct. THR reported on Tuesday that Banks is in talks to helm the reboot, while also producing the film with her husband.
After directing a Pitch Perfect sequel that grossed more than $69 million its opening weekend this year, Banks has been in high demand. It looks like a Charlie's Angels movie could be the next step in Banks' path to becoming a tent-pole director. She'll follow McG as the talent at the helm of the franchise.
While the original Charlie's Angels cast of Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson will always be the true version of the team, more recent generations only know Cameron Diaz, Lucy Lui and Drew Barrymore as the crimefighting trio. (Based on how quickly the latest Charlie's Angels TV show was canceled, I doubt that anyone sees Minka Kelly, Annie Ilonzeh and Rachael Taylor as the epitome of the team.)
I'd expect the new Charlie's Angels movie to set off a ton of casting rumors, with the three roles having the possibility to turn unknowns into household names.
