Legendary and Warner Bros. Planning a KING KONG Reboot and GODZILLA Sequel Before GODZILLA VS. KING KONG

There are some new details on the plan to pit Godzilla against King Kong once again on the big screen. We learned last week that Legendary Pictures is moving its Kong: Skull Island film from Universal Pictures over to Warner Bros., which is already the home to Legendary's rebooted Godzilla franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter added some new information to this development on Wednesday, reporting that Warner Bros. has signed on for a three-movie deal with Legendary. The King Kong reboot will lead this deal, with Godzilla 2 next. The two movie monsters will clash in the final film in this deal.

When I first heard about the potential for a new Godzilla vs King Kong film, I wondered how the couple-stories-tall King Kong could hold his own against the skyscraper-sized Godzilla. Apparently Legendary and Warner Bros. have a plan to make this matchup work.

A threshold problem is that Kong supposedly is much smaller than Godzilla. That fact was not lost on Universal. "There were funny comments about him having to be the size of the Empire State Building instead of hanging off of it," says a studio insider. But a source close to Tull says Legendary is confident it can come up with a rationale to explain how Kong and Godzilla can do battle — and possibly become allies.

I dunno. Maybe when the two become allies, Kong can ride on Godzilla's back, but there's no way a fight between the ends in any way but Godzilla stomping on King Kong. He wouldn't even have to break out the atomic breath.
