BOX OFFICE REPORT (NOV. 16-18): Way to Go, America, You Gave 'Twilight' the 8th Highest Opening of All Time

1. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 (N)
$141.3 million ($141.30 million)
With the final Twilight movie hitting theaters this past weekend, our long national nightmare of watching these ridiculous movies make a mockery of the box office record books is just about over. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 was going to go down quietly, though, with the teen vampire romance movie debuting to a whopping $141.30 million. This total is good enough for the eighth highest opening weekend of all time and the second highest opening for the franchise. The Twilight Saga: New Moon opening to $142.84 in 2009. Interestingly enough, some of Breaking Dawn 2's opening weekend total came from 10 p.m. showing on Thursday. These numbers usually aren't counted toward a film's total weekend, by Lionsgate is including them, so take this overall number with a grain of salt.

Breaking Dawn 2 will probably hold onto the top spot at the box office next weekend, with Red Dawn and Rise of the Guardians being the big challengers. Red Dawn does have the fact that it stars Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the kid with the weird jaw from The Hunger Games (Josh Hutcherson). Kids love those thing.

2. Skyfall (1)
$41.50 million ($161.34 million)
How's this for impressive? Skyfall is just $8 million away from becoming the all-time highest-grossing James Bond film in North America, inching up on Quantum of Solace. Globally, Skyfall is closing in on $700 million, already making Skyfall the highest grossing Bond film worldwide. Now about some Oscar buzz, Academy?

3. Lincoln (15)
$21.00 million ($22.42 million)
If I didn't know about history or movies and you told me that the man portraying Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln was actually the sixteenth president, brought onto the big screen through some time warp or something, I would believe you. Daniel Day-Lewis is that good. His acting in Lincoln is on a level above anything else I've seen from 2012's films. Give Day-Lewis every best actor award available. He deserves them all.

4. Wreck-It Ralph (2)
$18.31 million ($121.48 million)
Oh, Wreck-It Ralph, you've escaped my moviegoing abilities so far in November. I really want to see this one (and I'm kind of pulling for it over Brave at the Oscars), so I'll have to see what I can do with my post-Thanksgiving weekends.

5. Flight (3)
$8.62 million ($61.34 million)
I was originally supposed to fly for Thanksgiving, but thanks to some work stuff, I'm driving instead. At least now I won't have to worry about Denzel Washington flying my plane while high on cocaine and Budweiser.

Next week's predictions:
1. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2
2. Rise of the Guardians
3. Skyfall
4. Lincoln
5. Wreck-It Ralph
