If Donald Glover doesn't have your attention yet, he's about to

This post is going to start with a few quick points: You should be watching Community. Donald Glover is one of the funniest actors on Community. Donald Glover is talented beyond just acting.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let me elaborate. While you should know Glover from his role as Troy Barnes on Community, the 28-year-old once wrote for 30 Rock. Tina Fey even credits him with being the basis for the character of Kenneth. Besides acting and writing, Glover is on the verge of becoming a star as the rapper Childish Gambino. Yup, he raps too. What's may surprise you, is that he's good. And not like Lonely Island joke rap good. But smart good.

After releasing an album and an EP for free online, Glover's commercial debut, Camp, hits iTunes and stores Thursday, Nov. 15. The album swings from cocky to sentimental, as Glover — er, Gambino — covers a wide swath of his life, from growing up in a school where he was the only black kid to how his newfound fame has changed his life. Once again, his music is smart, a massive mix of pop culture with references to LostSuper Smash Bros. and Full House (just to name a few). The album comes with an parental warning too, so don't be shocked to see an NBC star proudly playing in the profane.

The last four minutes of the album is actually just Glover talking. It might be the best part of the album, though, as Glover tells the story of the time he laid his feelings on the line for a girl (using the word "destiny"), only to have personal moment lead to his philosophy about putting himself out there.

It's been a trend for years to have actors and actresses give music a shot. Jared Leto with 30 Seconds to Mars. Taylor Momsen with The Pretty Reckless. Donald Glover is something special though. This isn't for the publicity. And it isn't just because he's an actor and he can. Glover's Childish Gambino persona is a real artist, and a unique artist. Don't let the NBC bio fool you.
