A Will Cleveland Pop-Ed: What I'm Listening to This Week
What am I listening to this week?
Without inspiration (or a solid idea), I am going to offer what I am listening to this week ...
1. Long Road to Hell — Avicii feat. Audra Mae
It’s dance-y, it’s soulful. Dig it.
2. Suicide Dream 2 (Orchestral version) — How to Dress Well
It strips down the original and makes it more organic and so damn heartbreaking. I dare you to listen to this and not shed a little tear or at least get a little excited. Or as my German friend, Chris, said … it took his breath away.
3. New York Morning — Elbow
This song touched me. It hit me. It’s beautiful. I have no other words to offer. I just recommend that you listen to it and let it seep in. Elbow is an acquired taste. The British outfit have never really been my thing. They’ve never connected with me or hit me in a way that I felt like I needed to pay attention. They’ve always been there. This song is different.
4. Hide — FKA Twigs
I seem to be in a very vulnerable and sensitive place this week. Not sure what that says about me or my mental state at this point. Regardless, Ms. Twigs hit me last year with her simple brand of trip hop. “Water Me” (which I stupidly neglected on my 2013 list) was one of the most moving songs of the year. This new rendition adds a new layer to her EP2. It’s completely organic and insanely beautiful. So fucking beautiful.
