STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Sets Box Office Record With $57M Thursday Previews

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is one-for-one when it comes to setting domestic box office records. The new Star Wars movie opened with $57 million from Thursday previews.

The Force Awakens will roll that number into its Friday totals, which will without a doubt give the film the biggest opening and single day record, beating Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2's $91.1 million. With just that single day alone, the latest Star Wars movie will also claim the biggest December opening weekend, toppling The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey's $84.6 million.

All of this will go toward answering the question of whether The Force Awakens can dethrone Jurassic World at the top of the all-time opening weekend leaderboard. If the film grosses more than $100 million in a day alone, Jurassic World's $208.8 million should be beatable.
