Marvel Studios Picks a Director for THOR: RAGNAROK
Marvel Studios has long made surprising director picks, whether it was James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy or Peyton Reed for Ant-Man. The studio is on the verge of another pick that no one saw coming, with TheWrap reporting that Marvel is in talks with Taika Waititi to direct Thor: Ragnarok.
While the plot of the third Thor film is tightly under wraps, the "Ragnarok" subtitle and a few scenes in Avengers: Age of Ultron make it likely that Thor will be facing the end of days in Asgard. This would be Waititi's first time directing a superhero film, previously helming Flight of the Concords and What We Do in the Shadows. Waititi does have a history working with Marvel's parent company, Disney, writing the script for the upcoming Moana.
If Waititi does sign on for Thor: Ragnarok, he'll follow Kenneth Branagh and Alan Taylor as the franchise's directors.
Thor: Ragnarok opens on July 28, 2017. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Jaimie Alexander have all confirmed that they'll be back for this movie.
