Weekend Box Office Roundup (August 24-26)
1. The Expendables 2 (1)
$13.42 million ($52.24 million)
It was an awful weekend at the box office. Holdovers did poorly. New releases like Premium Rush and Hit and Run failed to register in the top five. If you weren't 2016 Obama's America (No. 7 with $6.5 million), no one was talking about you. There's really not much to say about this dismal box office weekend.
The Expendables 2 fell 53.1 percent and very likely won't even match its predecessor's lifetime gross of $103.07 million. So much for that star-studded The Expendables 3.
2. The Bourne Legacy (2)
$9.34 million ($85.52 million)
Just a few weeks ago, I was talking about the future of the Bourne franchise with Jeremy Renner and how we could expect additional installments. Now, I'm not quite sure about that. At this point, The Bourne Legacy is still roughly $34 million away from matching The Bourne Identity's total, which previously stood as the franchise's lowest.
3. ParaNorman (3)
$8.34 million ($28.26 million)
It's not a good sign when you're animated movie hasn't even cracked the $30 million barrier in its second weekend. If the kids who gobble up Ice Age sequels aren't interested, you're in trouble.

4. The Campaign (4)
$7.47 million ($64.58 million)
I was going to make fun of The Campaign's $64.58 million lifetime gross, but upon checking my facts, I learned that Will Ferrell movies don't actually make much money. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy's total gross? $85.29 million. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby has the highest lifetime gross of any Ferrell movie, finishing at $148.21 million.
5. The Dark Knight Rises (6)
$7.22 million ($422.26 million)
Feel free to imagine I used some "rises" pun when it comes to The Dark Knight Rises moving up from No. 6 last weekend to this weekend's No. 5. I know you want the pun, but I'm not going to give it to you. The Dark Knight Rises is now the twelfth highest grossing film ever at the domestic box office, ready to pass The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest in the upcoming week. Full disclosure: I saw The Dark Knight Rises for the third time last week. It's still awesome.
Next week's predictions:
1. Lawless
2. The Expendables 2
3. The Bourne Legacy
4. The Possession
5. The Dark Knight Rises
