Calling Jeff Bridges: 'Tron: Legacy' Sequel Is Back in Development at Disney

Get your light cycles ready, folks — Disney has put the sequel to Tron: Legacy back into development. The film, which had stalled over the past year or so, would continue the franchise with Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski, according to a Hollywood Reporter report.

The sequel to the 2010 reboot Tron: Legacy — called Tron 3 in some quarters — is moving a step forward with Disney in negotiations to hire Jesse Wigutow to pen the latest draft of the script.

Joseph Kosinski, who directed Legacy, is attached to helm this installment, which is being developed with a renewed urgency under Alan Horn, who took the reigns of Disney Studios in June.

While Tron: Legacy wasn't a perfect movie, I was a big fan. How do you go wrong with Jeff Bridges and Daft Punk? Great use of 3D too.

While it's unclear how much of Tron: Legacy Disney would build a new sequel from, can you really have Tron without bringing Bridges back? And how about Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde? It looked the end of Tron: Legacy (and some of the viral marketing stuff online afterward) was setting their characters up to be the bridge to a large story. No matter what the story winds up being, the Tron: Legacy sequel better have Daft Punk doing the soundtrack.
