Lamp Has Competition: Kristen Wiig May Play Steve Carell's Love Interest in 'Anchorman' Sequel

After being announced in a huge way back in May, there's been little news lately about Anchorman: The Legend Continues, the sequel to the 2004 Will Ferrell comedy that also put Paul Rudd and Steve Carell on the radar. There was the big Conan appearance by Ferrell in Ron Burgundy costume and then a series of trailers that rolled out online and with The Dictator, but beyond that, the Anchorman front has been quiet.

Well, seven months later, and it looks like we might have some news. Former Saturday Night Live star Kristen Wiig may join Anchorman: The Legend Continues as a love interest for Brick Tamland, Carell's character, according to TheWrap. It's also being reported that October 2013 is being eyed as a release date for the film.

Wiig and Christina Applegate in the same movie? When Applegate recently hosted SNL, the actress took on several roles that probably would have previously gone to Wiig. It should be interested to see them acting together. What's everyone think of the news team being assembled with Wiig as a member?
