Kyle MacLachlan Will Return to 'How I Met Your Mother' as The Captain

The eighth and second-to-last season of How I Met Your Mother has had its fair share of new and returning guest stars, and the show will bring back at least one more before the season is over. Kyle MacLachlan will reprise his role as The Captain in the Feb. 18 episode The Ashtray, according to a Vulture report.

We don't know much about the specifics of the plot, except that it kicks off with Ted stressing out after the Captain, completely out of the blue, reaches out to him. (Let's hope Zoey isn't somehow involved in all of this.)

I'm guessing Zoey won't be involved in this, most likely being it hasn't been announced that Jennifer Morrison will be coming back to HIMYM. I'm curious to see how the show will incorporate The Captain again. We last saw him in Garbage Island, with Ted revealing that he was the guy who broke up The Captain's marriage. Ted then immediately fled from The Captain's building, so he didn't exactly leave things on good terms with Zoey's ex-husband.

In other HIMYM news, Abby Elliott's long-awaited episode will air on Feb. 11, one week before The Captain returns.
