Will Disney's First Standalone 'Star Wars' Film Focus on Yoda?

To answer the question posed in this article's headline, honestly, I dunno. Ain't It Cool News is reporting that Disney/Lucasfilm has set its sights on making Yoda the focus of the first standalone Star Wars film. As a reminder, Disney plans on making a Sequel Trilogy that would wrap up the story of the Skywalker clan, with JJ Abrams already on board to direct Star Wars: Episode VII. Beyond that, the studio wants to branch off with standalone films, giving a bunch of directors their chances to tell new stories that take place in the Star Wars universe.

AICN doesn't really source the rumor that a Yoda movie will be the first of these standalones, nor do they give us much information, but I figured I'd pass it along. It's interesting, since I remember there being rumors a few years ago that George Lucas was thinking about doing what would've basically been Star Wars: Episode 0 by making a film that focused on Yoda's training as a Jedi. I wonder if this is the same rumor just popping up again now that the idea of standalone Star Wars films is a reality.

I guess I'm cool with the idea of a Yoda film, although part of the character's allure has been that we don't know his history. We don't even know the name of his species, as Lucas refused to ever include it any Star Wars material. Do we really want to see a planet full of Yodas? The idea of entire wars fought by Jedi seemed cool until the Prequel Trilogy kind of screwed that up. I'll give Disney the benefit of the doubt on this one. Like I've said before, they didn't screw the Marvel Cinematic Universe up, and things couldn't be any worse than the what Lucas did with the Prequel Trilogy.

This news obviously isn't confirmed, so take this article with a grain of salt.
